Course Description

This program is ideal for those starting out in the industry who need a comprehensive introduction, as well as current employees in the aged care sector seeking to strengthen or broaden their skills. This qualification reflects the role of support workers who undertake specialised tasks and functions within aged services, including residential, home-based, or community settings. Workers are responsible for their own outputs within defined organisational guidelines and ensure quality service delivery through developing, facilitating, and reviewing individualised service plans. They may also be required to demonstrate leadership skills and have limited responsibility for managing the workload and quality of outputs of others within set parameters.

Stella College’s Certificate IV in Ageing Support is suited to those currently working in, seeking work in, or who have previous experience or studies in the aged care sector. This course also benefits individuals with care or community service backgrounds who wish to advance their skills. The qualification focuses primarily on work in residential facilities or home environments within defined organisational policies and care plans.

Throughout the course, you will learn to perform activities that maintain an individual’s wellbeing through personal care and other everyday living activities. You will also be trained to provide services to individuals with complex needs and to work effectively with groups of older people.

Work Placement

At least 120 hours of supervised work placement should be completed.

Students are required to arrange their own placement, with support from Stella College provided on an as-needed basis.

Students can also request support from Stella College Placement team to find placement for the students.

Students can use their current workplace for placement (Has to be approved by Stella College before beginning the placement)

Each unit with a placement component includes a work placement assessment task.

Study Pathways

Completion enables graduates to pursue advanced qualifications, including CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services (not offered by Stella College currently). Current & Previous Students have also enrolled into the following to broaden employment opportunities: CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure & Health or CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support
